ORNAGH
SHORT-FORM DOCUMENTARY
A CONCEPTUAL ARTIST WHO CREATES UNIQUE IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCES
-
Team-based client promotional project for Ornagh Lynch, a virtual reality artist.
Worked to a professional brief, collaborating as a group.
Met with Ornagh at her studio and in college to research, interview, and document her process.
From shared material, edited my own short-form documentary.
-
Aimed for a fast-paced structure to keep the viewer’s attention.
Planned this in rigorous detail, drawing up a timeline of how it should run.
Split the doc into distinct sections to explore.
Wanted the viewer to feel like they were “entering” Ornagh’s digital world.
Drew inspiration from narrative, visual and sound design used in streaming-service docs.
-
Spent extensive time on transitions, sound design, and graphic design
These creative details took far longer than expected, impacting overall progress
Prioritised quality over speed, focusing on precision and aesthetic consistency
Became a valuable lesson in managing time and expectations
Learned the importance of setting clear creative limits and adapting plans under pressure
-
I would gather all the necessary assets much earlier in the process to avoid last-minute searching
I’d plan the doc structure ahead of the interviews to ensure all key questions and soundbites are captured
I would make a short and punchy intro sequence that serves like a 15-second teaser trailer (giving viewers a proper flavour of who this is about), before getting into “Who is Ornagh?”
