A PERFUME ADVERT EXPLORING THE POWER OF SCENT
-
Selected Valentino as the perfume brand for a 60-second narrative advert
Tasked with creatively promoting the product through storytelling
Inspired by dramatic, sensual perfume campaigns.
Conceived a concept in which the scent is so irresistible that people literally “die for it”.
Narrative follows a central character whose presence intoxicates others with the fragrance’s power.
Within two weeks, developed the concept, sourced costume pieces, and directed and filmed the advert.
-
The rough concept outline: a man walks through the streets on his way to work, unknowingly killing everyone in his path.
I wanted music that was almost ridiculously dramatic and memorable.
I sketched out plans to have many more people collapse - but these were scrapped due to time & availability.
The more silly the concept, the more it sticks in people’s heads (I incorporated this advice)
-
Outdoor camera quality appeared notably unsteady due to handheld filming.
The handheld approach was intentional, chosen to allow greater freedom in tracking the character’s movement.
However, I found that Premiere Pro’s stabilisation tools were insufficient, reinforcing the importance of using a tripod or stabilising rig for smoother outdoor shots.
-
The advert captured strong attention from both staff and students
Received a positive response for its humour and tone
Demonstrated that playful or “silly” concepts can generate interest and drive audience engagement more effectively than conventional ones
